Moroccan Geode

These geodes, collected in Morocco, have beautiful white crystals inside! These geodes are mined in Morocco and are thought to be about 34 million years old. It can take hundreds of millions of years for the space inside a geode to fill, and such, many geodes remain partly hollow.

Geodes are rocks, plain on the outside but have a hidden beauty of crystals on the inside! Over many years, minerals seep into a hollow area and harden into an outer shell. The minerals continue to grow slowly over time on the inside, growing towards the center. The most common mineral found inside these types of geodes is called Quartz. In other types of geodes you can find minerals such as Amethyst.

To bust open your geode

Place it inside a sock, old towel or leave it in the bag it came in. Once wrapped, lay it down on a concrete floor and LIGHTLY tap your geode with a hammer (keep your hands clear). Keep lightly tapping until you hear or feel the geode bust open. If it is taking awhile and not busting, add a little more pressure to the tap until the geode busts. NOTE: when busting a geode with a hammer, you will get uneven halves and some small beautiful pieces! Gather up your treasure and put it on display. Most geodes are hollow, few are solid. The solid ones are called nodules.

Quartz crystals are known to have healing and protection energies.

*Safety glasses and adult supervision are required. Not recommended for children under 3 years old.
